Alabama registered agent questions
Do I need a registered agent in Alabama?
Yes. Alabama — like every US state — requires your LLC or corporation to maintain a registered agent with a physical Alabama address, available during business hours to receive legal documents and state mail. You can be your own agent only if you have a Alabama street address and are personally available every weekday.
Can I use Kicker as my Alabama registered agent if I live abroad?
Absolutely. Non-US founders can't be their own registered agent because a US address is required. We provide a compliant Alabama address and handle every document that arrives — this is one of the most common reasons international founders use us.
Will you remind me about my Alabama annual report?
Yes. N/A for LLCs — Alabama LLCs are NOT required to file an Annual Report (AL-CAR) with the Secretary of State. Effective Jan 1, 2024, only domestic/foreign for-profit corporations and professional corporations file the SOS Corporation Annual Report ($10), due 2.5 months after the start of the taxable year (March 15 for calendar-year filers). LLCs/limited liability entities are expressly exempt. Separately, the Alabama business privilege tax minimum was fully exempted for tax due of $100 or less for years beginning after Dec 31, 2023, so most LLCs owe nothing and need not file. We track that date and remind you ahead of it — and we can file the report for you too.
How do I switch my Alabama registered agent to Kicker?
After you sign up we prepare the Alabama change-of-agent form, file it with the state, and confirm when it's active — usually within 1–5 business days. Your current agent is notified automatically through the state filing.
